Job Description & How to Apply Below

Company Description

Apex Atomics is building the American industrial base for field-deployed atomic sensors that deliver accurate, trustworthy information for critical decision-making. The company combines atomic hardware, low-noise electronics, and integrated software to deliver autonomous, robust turnkey solutions. Its engineering stack is focused on deploying quantum hardware in challenging environments, from orbit to deep underwater. Apex Atomics rapidly prototypes scalable quantum sensors and transitions successful designs to full-rate production, offering candidates the opportunity to work on cutting-edge quantum and sensing technologies.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Electrical Engineer role with 1-4+ years of experience based in Boulder, CO. The Electrical Engineer will design, analyze, and optimize electrical circuits and systems that interface with atomic and quantum sensor hardware, including low-noise electronics, power distribution, and control systems. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating schematics and PCB layouts, running simulations, performing calculations, and conducting bench-level testing, validation, and troubleshooting of prototypes and production systems.

The role will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including physics, firmware, and mechanical engineering to integrate electronics into complete sensor solutions and support design reviews and documentation. The Electrical Engineer will also contribute to continuous improvement of design standards, manufacturing readiness, and reliability for field-deployed systems.

Qualifications
  • Strong foundation in Electrical Engineering, with applied knowledge of electricity, circuit theory, and electronic components.
  • Proficiency in electrical design, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and use of design and simulation tools (e.g., SPICE, Altium, KiCad, or similar).
  • Experience with power systems and power distribution, including low-noise power supplies, converters, and protection strategies.
  • Ability to perform hands-on lab work: testing, debugging, using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and related instrumentation.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience working with mixed-signal, low-noise, or high-reliability electronics is highly beneficial.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems, control electronics, or sensor interfaces (e.g., ADCs, DACs, communication buses) is a plus.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary, fast-paced environment.
