Job Overview
The BESS Estimator I will be responsible for supporting the BESS Lead Estimators with estimates of complex and large utility scale energy storage projects. An estimator is the single point of accountability for the completion of conceptual and final hard‑bid estimates for self‑perform construction work. The BESS Estimator I will support the development of an estimate under guidance from a BESS Lead Estimator and BESS Estimating Manager, including scope, schedule, cost, safety, and quality.
An estimator must be capable of presenting their estimate to the leadership team, demonstrating high competency of all components of the estimate and including backup supporting documentation to defend the estimate and the information used to assemble it.
Job Responsibilities
- Partner with the team to take meeting minutes and track action items.
- Perform basic low‑impact side projects for the BESS Estimating Manager and Director of Estimating such as cost analysis, time studies, etc.
- Work with the BESS Lead Estimator to maintain document control.
- Review all estimating departmental reports while developing estimating acumen.
- Participate in capturing team and client meetings.
- Estimate small portions of the overall estimate under close supervision.
- Travel to projects to understand Primoris’ high level of project completion; develop relationships with site personnel and perform time studies.
- Collaborate in reviewing project/client documents.
- Provide support as needed for various tasks as assigned.
- Prefer a BS degree in a business or engineering discipline.
- Preference given for experience in solar, renewable energy, energy storage, or power generation.
- Minimum of 0–2 years’ experience estimating industrial electrical construction projects.
- Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications with MS Office proficiency.
- Demonstrated skills in written communications; ability to compose basic as well as complex technical documents, formal letters, invoices.
- Demonstrated skills in oral communications; ability to make presentations to large, diverse groups.
- Proven success in developing and maintaining internal and external relationships while effectively navigating organizational barriers.
- Excellent organizational, planning and time‑management skills.
- Working knowledge of project accounting practices and financial systems.
- General understanding of fixed‑price, time & materials, cost‑plus and unit contract pricing mechanisms.
- Working knowledge of the techniques needed to lead and influence others in a matrix organization.
