  • Provide M&P engineering support for aerospace-grade materials and processes, including aluminum, steel, inconel, copper, bronze, forming, extrusion, plating, coating, welding, brazing, anodization, and passivation
  • Provide design engineering support for mechanical systems and mechanism assemblies
  • Ensure parts, materials, and processes meet requirements for vehicle systems
  • Execute characterization and qualification efforts related to materials and processes
  • Systematically review production drawings for large, complex assemblies and document reviews against established requirements
  • Release engineering drawings for parts and assemblies as an M&P signatory
  • Evaluate and select lubricants, dry-film coatings, and surface treatments for vacuum, cryogenic, and high-cycle-life applications
  • Characterize friction, wear, and lubrication behavior through analysis and laboratory testing
  • Support internal and external M&P efforts, including specifications, supplier qualification, First Article Inspection, mechanical testing, and customer-facing updates
  • Develop internal engineering and quality processes to standardize and accelerate material evaluation, implementation, and qualification
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within the Lunar organization and other business units
Requirements
  • Minimum B.S. degree in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Chemical Engineering, or related field
  • 6+ years of demonstrated M&P Engineering experience on a production space program
  • Demonstrated expertise in tribology, including lubrication science, surface coatings, and wear mechanisms
  • Experience with solid-film and liquid lubricants for space and vacuum environments
  • Experience in materials and manufacturing process review and selection, development, and qualification
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification of components, materials, and processes
  • Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis, including MMPDS, MAPTIS, and CMH-17
  • Experience organizing and managing materials and process-related data in a company-accessible database

    Ability to travel to support development and testing at other Blue Origin and vendor sites
  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Chemical Engineering, or related field (desired)
  • Experience running ambient, elevated-temperature, and cryogenic thermomechanical testing (desired)
  • Experience planning and executing material allowables or qualification programs (desired)
