Analyst of Alternative Investments Job Summary

The Analyst of Alternative Investments plays a critical role in advancing complex, high-impact financial and critical initiatives that support the University of Colorado Boulder’s long-term academic, research, and institutional priorities. This role is designed for a professional who can navigate ambiguity, dive deeply into complex financial and deal structures, and translate sophisticated analyses into clear, executive-level insights that support informed decision-making.

The Senior Analyst partners closely with senior campus leadership, the Business Strategy Office, CU Boulder Enterprise Corporation (CUBEC), external partners, and internal collaborators to develop financially sound, mission-aligned solutions across real estate, venture, and strategic investment initiatives.

What Your

Key Responsibilities Will BeFinancial Analysis & Modeling
  • Provide structured and complex reporting, data expertise, and technical assistance. Maintain and update reports (routine and ad hoc), queries, and financial management information to support analysis and decision-making.
  • Perform financial activities supporting strategic financial planning, feasibility analysis, pro forma modeling, sensitivity analysis, and periodic reporting.
  • Prepare financial models in support of consulting engagements with campus units.
  • Review developer pro formas for public-private partnership (P3) developments and summarize changes to key development terms to inform negotiations.
  • Evaluate private equity proposals and provide balanced assessments of potential deal structures, including risks and benefits.
Investment Portfolio Management
  • Assist and maintain the investment pipeline, summarizing opportunities across venture capital, critical initiatives, and real estate development.
  • Assist in the development of quarterly reports for venture capital investments, including the Buff Fund, pre‑seed investment fund, and other investment types as they arise.
  • Develop portfolio-level real estate reporting that integrates data from multiple asset types and incorporates best-practice KPIs from campus units managing real estate.
  • Create and maintain project one-pagers to support briefings with campus leadership, regents, donors, and industry partners.
  • Maintain macro- and micro-economic projections to inform long-term investment and strategic decision-making.
Governance, Reporting & Compliance
  • Support administrative financial functions, including oversight of operating and investment accounts, loan agreements, and expense payments.
  • Conduct financial reporting activities and assist in managing relationships with accounting, audit, and tax firms to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Assist with preparation for regular, special, and annual board meetings, including agenda development and financial materials.
  • Support governance agreements and ensure appropriate recognition and reimbursement of costs under joint operating and management services agreements.
