Position: COMPLIANCE INVESTIGATOR I (Cripple Creek) - Division of Gaming.

Job Description

The Colorado Department of Revenue (CDOR) seeks a Compliance Investigator I to work in the Division of Gaming. The mission of CDOR is to become a trusted partner to every Coloradan by providing high quality customer service and safeguarding public trust.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be residents of Colorado at the time of application.

Responsibilities
  • Process license applications and collect fees.
  • Conduct background investigations of applicants.
  • Investigate alleged violations of Colorado Gaming Statutes, Rules, and Internal Controls, including criminal and administrative investigations.
  • Conduct compliance inspections of licensees, patrons, premises, records, and devices.
  • Draft clear and factual inspection reports and database entries.
  • Initiate and implement enforcement actions for gaming violations and testify before the Colorado Gaming Commission.
  • Provide front‑office services: answer calls, process visitors, handle applications, and respond to licensing inquiries via telephone, email, and written correspondence.
  • Deliver training and presentations to internal and external audiences.
  • Maintain required certifications and stay proficient with state systems.
Typical Day

A typical day involves conducting inspections and investigations, maintaining front‑office operations, and performing any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of relevant compliance or investigative experience in a regulatory environment; OR a combination of related education and equivalent experience.
  • Must pass a background investigation and tax check.
  • Valid driver’s license at the time of application.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience interpreting and applying statutes and regulations.
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry prioritizing public safety.
  • Prior experience in professional investigative and/or compliance roles.
  • Experience working in the public sector or with government organizations.
  • Recent experience with investigations involving public safety and researching databases.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Conditions of Employment

Employees must file required Colorado Individual Income Tax returns, undergo a tax record evaluation, and complete a successful background investigation prior to appointment. Employees who use a State‑owned vehicle must maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
