We are seeking a benefits-eligible, part-time (20 hours/week) Public Health Nurse for our Reproductive Health Clinic. The typical schedule is Tuesday and Wednesday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, and Thursday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. These hours are subject to change but would still be within the 20 hours/week framework. This role supports the Advanced Practice Nurse clinician (nurse practitioner/midwife) in providing patient care, managing supplies, dispensing medications, and tracking clinic statistics, while serving as the primary provider for Thursday morning Walk-In clinic hours.

You will take on a versatile set of responsibilities, including acting as an intake nurse, pharmacy technician, phlebotomist, lab processor, data entry clerk, and STI screener. In addition to conducting community outreach, this position involves direct engagement with the public and external partners. The ideal candidate is passionate about reproductive health services, thrives in a collaborative team environment and demonstrates flexibility while managing a variety of responsibilities across multiple programs.

The Public Health Nurse performs professional and technical work as a generalist supporting clinic coordination, program development and client care. The role provides assessment, clinical services, collaboration of preventive health programs, referrals and outreach to the community with a health equity focus. Work involves providing client care and education to individuals, families, and groups on various public health topics and health priorities, both in a clinic setting and at outreach events.

Priority work includes addressing client and community partner needs, supporting physical and behavioral health, and utilizing community resources, data and programmatic strategies for the betterment of the community. Nurses may assist with several core public health services and programs, including the Immunization clinic and disease control investigations, support on Maternal Child Health priorities, HCP Program for Children with Special Needs, Reproductive Health clinic, nurse visitation program and general public health priorities depending on the needs of the department.

  • Perform health assessments of clients, identify health care needs and resources, and implement health care plans and/or referrals for clients as needed.
  • Maintain, develop and coordinate clinic processes, protocols, inventory, ordering and supplies as needed.
  • Assist with outreach events and provide education and resources to the community and external partners.
  • Assist with public health calls and prioritizing tasks. Respond, as required, to support public health emergencies, incidents and events.
  • Provide programmatic, technical assistance and training to community agencies and providers including schools, child care centers and other community stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in other Health and Human Services divisions, county agencies, community agencies, non-profit organizations, and vendors to effectively serve the needs of the citizens.
  • Assist the Nursing Manager in the preparation of the department annual budget, appropriate fiscal spending and overall programmatic development.
  • Assist in process improvements and collaboration with other internal and external teams to implement program deliverables and public health priorities as needed.
  • Keep advised of updates and department priorities, as well as pertinent new rules, regulations, legislation, procedures, and professional developments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information consistent with applicable federal, state and county rules and regulations.
