Job Overview

Blue River Medical is looking for a Field Service Technician to help service, maintain, calibrate, and repair ophthalmic equipment throughout Colorado.

Previous ophthalmic equipment experience is not required. We are willing to train the right person.

We're looking for someone who is mechanically inclined, enjoys troubleshooting equipment, works well independently, and is comfortable working directly with customers.

This could be an excellent fit for someone with experience in:

  • Medical or biomedical equipment
  • Dental equipment
  • Field service
  • Electronics
  • Mechanical repair
  • Laboratory equipment
  • Copier or printer service
  • Industrial equipment
  • Military technical or maintenance roles
  • Other hands-on technical service positions

Candidates with direct ophthalmic equipment experience are highly encouraged to apply.

What You'll Do

You will travel to optometry and ophthalmology practices throughout Colorado to perform service and preventative maintenance on clinical equipment.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Preventative maintenance
  • Equipment calibration
  • Mechanical adjustments
  • Cleaning and servicing precision equipment
  • Troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues
  • Replacing components and making minor repairs
  • Installing and setting up equipment
  • Leveling and adjusting exam lane equipment
  • Documenting completed service work
  • Communicating with doctors, practice managers, and office staff
  • Identifying equipment that may need additional service or repair

Equipment may include:

  • Phoropters
  • Slit lamps
  • Exam chairs
  • Instrument stands
  • Tonometers
  • Acuity systems and displays
  • Ophthalmic exam lane equipment
  • Other diagnostic and clinical equipment as training progresses

You are not expected to know all of this equipment when you start.

Training

Blue River Medical provides hands-on training along with access to manufacturer training, technical documentation, and support.

Someone with strong mechanical or field-service skills can learn the ophthalmic equipment side of the position.

Candidates who already have relevant ophthalmic, biomedical, medical equipment, or field-service experience may be able to move into independent service work much more quickly.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate:

  • Is mechanically inclined and enjoys figuring out how equipment works
  • Has strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Is comfortable using hand tools
  • Can follow technical manuals and service procedures
  • Pays close attention to detail
  • Is comfortable working independently
  • Is organized and able to manage a field schedule
  • Communicates professionally with customers
  • Is willing to continually learn new equipment
  • Is comfortable driving to customer locations throughout Colorado

Direct ophthalmic experience is a major plus, but it is not required.

Requirements
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to travel throughout an assigned Colorado territory
  • Ability to use basic hand tools and service equipment
  • Basic computer and smartphone proficiency
  • Ability to lift and move equipment when necessary
  • Ability to work independently in customer locations
Compensation

$27.00 - $45.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Compensation will vary based on technical experience, field-service background, ophthalmic or medical equipment experience, and the amount of training required.

A candidate who is mechanically capable but new to medical or ophthalmic equipment may start toward the lower end of the range.

A highly experienced technician who can quickly take on independent ophthalmic equipment service may qualify toward the upper end.

Commission & Bonus Opportunity

In addition to base compensation, this position includes opportunities to earn additional commission and bonuses by identifying new service needs and helping Blue River Medical grow its service relationships with customers.

This is not primarily a sales position.

We want our technicians focused on taking care of customers and doing excellent service work. However, technicians are often in the best position to recognize when a practice has additional equipment that needs maintenance, repair, calibration, or ongoing preventative service.

We want to reward technicians who identify those opportunities and help us better support our customers.

Benefits & Perks

Benefits may include:

  • Paid technical training
  • Manufacturer training opportunities
  • Company-provided tools and service equipment
  • Mileage…
