Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Correctional HealthcarePriority Patient Transport is recruiting four full-time Emergency Medical Technicians for a potential assignment at the Boulder County Jail in Boulder, Colorado.
Openings:- Two day-shift EMTs: 6:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m.
- Two night-shift EMTs: 6:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m.
- Twelve-and-a-half-hour shifts
- Weekend and holiday availability required
- Exact workdays will be determined by the final staffing schedule
The EMT will support the Boulder County Jail’s medical team by conducting intake screenings, obtaining medical histories and vital signs, recognizing and reporting changes in patient condition, providing emergency care within the EMT scope of practice, and assisting nurses and medical providers with patient care.
This position requires professionalism, sound judgment, accurate documentation, and the ability to work effectively in a secure correctional healthcare environment.
Essential Duties- Conduct medical intake screenings for individuals entering the facility.
- Obtain and document medical histories, vital signs, and other required patient information.
- Recognize and promptly report abnormal findings or changes in condition to the appropriate registered nurse or medical provider.
- Provide emergency assessment, treatment, stabilization, CPR, and basic life support within the EMT’s authorized scope of practice.
- Assist nurses and medical providers with patient care and medical procedures as directed.
- Perform blood draws, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and similar services when trained and authorized.
- Administer medications only when permitted by law, certification, training, facility policy, medical protocols, and medical direction.
- Complete timely and accurate medical documentation and medication records.
- Participate in medication counts or inventory procedures when assigned and authorized.
- Protect patient confidentiality and protected health information.
- Follow established clinical escalation and emergency-response procedures.
- Comply with all facility security rules, professional-conduct standards, medical protocols, and jail policies.
- Current Colorado EMT certification.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Ability to successfully complete Boulder County Sheriff’s Office background screening and security-clearance requirements.
- Ability to complete required jail orientation and facility training.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Qualified Medication Administration Person certification when medication administration is assigned.
- Ability to maintain all required certifications, credentials, training, and competencies throughout the assignment.
- Ability to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays according to the assigned schedule.
- Ability to work professionally with patients, correctional personnel, nurses, medical providers, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Previous experience in emergency medical services, correctional healthcare, hospital care, behavioral health, detoxification, or another structured clinical environment.
- Experience conducting patient assessments and medical intake screenings.
- Experience with electronic medical documentation.
- QMAP certification.
EMTs must perform only those duties for which they are legally authorized, properly certified, trained, and clinically competent. EMTs may not independently determine or change medication dosages unless specifically authorized by applicable law, protocol, and medical direction. Any condition, procedure, or medication concern outside the EMT’s authorized scope must be immediately escalated to the appropriate nurse or medical provider.
