Summary of Position

This position is spread over two historic, multi-room buildings, formal gardens, outdoor terraces, and an onsite parking lot. Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Event Operations and Housemen Supervisor this role serves as a hands‑on key player in the setup, breakdown, logistics, and communication of onsite events. The role will perform and oversee tasks related to event operations, and will also handle related functions in housekeeping, catering set‑up, security, and maintenance.

This position is located in Washington D.C. and Meridian requires MD, DC, or VA residence for all employees. The position may work partially remotely until further notice.

Position Responsibilities
  • Front and back of house event support duties including setup and breakdown of furniture, equipment, and AV; banquet F&B support; and coordination/communications with staff and vendors.
  • Manage and mentor event operations team members in successful execution of event setup details and daily operational tasks focused on conferences and special events.
  • Perform quality control, reviewing event setups for accuracy and identifying needed maintenance and housekeeping.
  • Complete weekly, monthly, and quarterly projects such as chandelier cleaning, silver polishing, outdoor furniture cleaning and storage, brass polishing, buffet storage, garden and terrace maintenance, and minor repairs.
  • Oversee general safety/security with the Maintenance team, securing doors, gates, and windows; provide limited event security and reception services as needed.
  • Complete all organizational administrative responsibilities in a timely manner, meeting all deadlines.
  • Maintain daily/weekly/monthly special assignment sheets.
  • Work a variable schedule: days and shift times vary based on events and departmental needs, from as early as 6 a.m. to as late as 1 a.m. when required.
  • Be considered essential and may be required to work during emergency closings.
  • Work some weekends as required.
Education / Experience
  • 3–5 years of experience applicable to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Professional experience in the luxury hospitality industry, such as a Hotel Banquet Houseman.
  • Experience in non‑profits, event centers, and/or historic buildings is a plus.
  • Some experience with Audio/Visual equipment is highly desired.
  • Work well with staff teams, from sales to operations.

  • Critical thinking and decision‑making while balancing multiple competing priorities; maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Dedication to excellent service with high energy and a can‑do attitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills;
    Spanish highly desirable.
  • Strong intercultural communication skills, maturity, cultural sensitivity, and tact for working with global partners.
  • Supervisory and project‑management experience desired.
  • Physical ability to climb stairs, stand, walk for extended periods, and lift heavy items up to 50 lb.
  • Professional, guest‑focused demeanor.
  • Effective team leadership and clear supervision.
  • Reliability and punctuality in all scheduled responsibilities.
  • Adaptability to changing event needs and operational priorities.
  • Initiative, independent task follow‑through, and strong situational awareness.
  • Coordination of individual tasks and team efforts to meet evolving priorities.
Technical Requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) is necessary.
  • Experience with Canva, Zoom, and Salesforce is helpful.
  • Comfortable using computers, smartphones, apps, and web‑based systems.
