WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Trade Desk is changing the way global brands and their agencies advertise to audiences around the world. With a media buying platform that helps brands deliver a more insightful and relevant ad experience for consumers, we set a new standard for global reach, accuracy, and transparency. We value diverse perspectives and are committed to fostering inclusive spaces where everyone can bring their authentic selves to work every day.
So, if you are talented, driven, creative, and eager to join a dynamic, globally‑connected team, then we want to talk!
THIS ROLE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE: This highly technical Product Management role is embedded with senior engineers, reviewing CI/CD pipelines, analyzing build times, mapping complex dependency chains, and optimizing developer workflows. If you can’t confidently discuss git merge strategies or explain the trade‑offs between monorepos and multi‑repos, this role will be extremely challenging.
Our mission is to build the internal developer platform that powers The Trade Desk’s engineering organization. We own the tools, workflows, and infrastructure that our developers interact with hundreds of times per day—from checkouts to production shipping and ongoing experiments.
We’re looking for a technical Product Manager who has shipped products to developers, not just with developers. Get excited about reducing build times by 30%, streamlining the code review process, or reimagining the local development environment. Your customers are senior engineers who will lose patience if you don’t understand their world.
The Trade Desk Product Team hires courageous, passionate PMs who set big goals and execute them. We grow, challenge, celebrate successes, and learn from failures. We value strong leadership and ask PMs to tackle ambitious, often ambiguous projects that extend our industry lead.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOINGOur teams own the software development life cycle at The Trade Desk—from the first day of a new developer to A/B testing and experimentation. We build tools, frameworks, automation, and processes that enable developers to focus on delivering customer value.
You will roll up your sleeves and dive deep into the problems developers face every day. This involves shadowing engineers, analyzing bottlenecks, investigating long code reviews, and understanding friction points. From this research, you synthesize insights into a vision and roadmap for our developer experience.
On a typical day, you might:
- Shadow a developer through their entire workflow to identify friction points
- Analyze metrics showing a 20% increase in build failures and collaborate with platform engineers to diagnose root causes
- Facilitate a technical deep‑dive with senior engineers on container startup times
- Write a technical specification for improving our local development environment
- Review user research showing developers are context‑switching 47 times per day and design solutions to reduce interruptions
- Present a monthly roadmap to engineering leadership, articulating technical trade‑offs and timelines
Your responsibilities include:
- Engage with the Trade Desk Engineering Team through direct interaction, user research, and data analysis
- Define the developer experience (DX) strategy and build a roadmap to achieve it
- Own key areas such as local developer environment setup, source control workflows, code review processes, cross‑team code stewardship, and deployment automation
- Establish the right metrics that measure developer productivity, satisfaction, and velocity, and use them to drive data‑driven decisions
- Partner closely with engineering, platform teams, and other stakeholders to deliver high‑impact improvements to our SDLC
- Evaluate emerging technologies (including AI‑assisted coding tools) and determine when they should be integrated into our workflows
This strategic role within the Trade Desk Development Platform organization leads deeply technical projects and provides hands‑on leadership in a complex, fast‑paced environment.
