A globally leading consumer device company based in Boulder, CO is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technicia
n to join their Acoustic Research Lab. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the execution of research studies involving audio recordings from human participants using specialized wearable devices and custom recording hardware and software. This role requires a strong technical aptitude, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of data quality and participant care.
- Assist with participant recruitment, scheduling, and onboarding processes.
- Clearly explain study procedures and ensure participants understand consent forms.
- Set up, calibrate, and operate custom audio recording hardware and software systems.
- Prepare and fit wearable audio recording devices on participants, ensuring proper placement and functionality.
- Monitor recording sessions to ensure data integrity and troubleshoot any technical issues in real-time.
- Conduct preliminary data quality checks post-recording.
- Perform routine maintenance of acoustic equipment, microphones, wearable devices, and recording systems.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions, assisting with basic troubleshooting and repair as needed.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of experimental protocols, equipment settings, and participant interactions.
- Assist with preliminary data processing or conversion tasks as directed by researchers.
- Ensure the acoustic lab environment is clean, organized, and adheres to safety protocols.
- Adhere to all ethical guidelines and institutional review board (IRB) protocols concerning human subjects research.
- 1-3 years of experience working in a laboratory or technical research environment.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical or scientific field (e.g., Acoustics, Audiology, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Psychology with a technical focus, or a related discipline).
- Hands-on experience with audio recording equipment and software is highly desirable.
- Experience working with human participants in a research or clinical setting is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with wearable technology is an advantage.
- Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills, especially with hardware and software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced research environment.
- Basic understanding of acoustic principles is a plus.
Type: Contract
Duration: 6 months with extension
Work Location: Boulder, CO (100% onsite)
