Overview

The Cleaner is responsible for ensuring that all library facilities furnishings remain clean, safe, and in good working condition. This position performs routine and specialized housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean, welcoming, and visually appealing environment for patrons and staff. This position works in a larger collaborative team of other cleaning professionals.

We are hiring for multiple 0.5

FTE (20 hours per week), non-exempt, at‑will positions. This position may occasionally work at other locations and will work nights, weekends, and after library hours.

Responsibilities
  • Facility Cleaning & Maintenance (80%)
  • Clean, dust, and sweep public and staff areas.
  • Mop, vacuum, shampoo, steam‑clean, wax, and polish floors and carpets.
  • Deep clean restrooms and restock supplies.
  • Clean public computers, keyboards, and computer mice.
  • Clean offices, meeting rooms, break rooms, and other staff spaces.
  • Dispose of trash, recycling, and compost.
  • Facility Monitoring & Reporting (20%)
  • Maintain awareness of building conditions and report needed or anticipated repairs to the supervisor.
  • Report any damage found, including issues with light bulbs, safety devices, and security equipment batteries.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Order and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies.
  • Sweep and remove trash from the interior and exterior main entrances.
  • Perform light snow and ice removal as needed.
Qualifications
  • Previous housekeeping, custodial, or janitorial experience required.
  • Demonstrated reliability and strong work habits.
  • Experience performing a range of physical and manual tasks, including operating custodial equipment and lifting items over 50 pounds.
  • Familiarity with custodial tools, equipment, materials, and cleaning methods.
Other Requirements
  • Acceptable background information, including criminal history and motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow established safety guidelines and procedures.
Work Environment

This position requires frequent physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, and repetitive motion for long periods. Must be able to lift, push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds. Work may involve exposure to hazards or physical risks; adherence to safety protocols is required. Must be able to climb ladders up to 10 feet and maintain balance.
