Operating under the general direction of the Director of Maintenance and Operations, this position oversees district wide grounds operations, including landscaping, irrigation, playgrounds, and site improvements. This role supervises Grounds Department staff and coordinates daily operations, projects, and contractor work to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality maintenance of district properties. The position also manages budgets, work order systems, and long-range planning to support operational needs and district priorities.
EssentialResponsibilities
- Plan, prioritize, and oversee daily grounds operations across all district sites.
- Manage the district work order system to coordinate requests, assign resources, and track completion.
- Coordinate multiple projects, aligning staffing, equipment, and timelines.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure quality, consistency, safety, and adherence to district standards.
- Identify maintenance needs, respond to concerns, and implement corrective actions.
- Plan, design, and coordinate grounds improvement and construction projects in collaboration with county planning and external agencies, including development of scopes, labor and material cost estimates, and timelines.
- Supervise Grounds Department staff, including assigning work, monitoring performance, and ensuring adequate coverage.
- Lead employee management functions including hiring, onboarding, training, evaluation, discipline, and termination in accordance with district policies.
- Provide coaching, technical guidance, and professional development.
- Ensure staff maintain required certifications and comply with safety standards, including equipment use and PPE requirements.
- Oversee maintenance of district grounds, including landscaping, irrigation, drainage, and site upkeep.
- Coordinate operation and repair of irrigation systems and equipment with specialized staff.
- Oversee maintenance, repair, and lifecycle management of grounds equipment, including preventive maintenance and service recordkeeping.
- Monitor playground equipment to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Coordinate seasonal operations, including snow removal planning and response.
- Plan and coordinate grounds improvement and construction projects, including playgrounds, parking lots, irrigation, and drainage systems.
- Develop project scopes, cost estimates, and timelines; monitor progress to ensure quality and completion.
- Coordinate with internal departments, contractors, and external agencies.
- Inspect and approve contracted work for compliance with specifications and standards.
- Develop and manage the Grounds Department budget, including monitoring expenditures and variances.
- Review and approve purchasing requests for supplies, materials, and contracted services.
- Coordinate procurement of equipment in partnership with Purchasing and other departments.
- Maintain accurate records of expenses, projects, and operational activities.
- Coordinate work with other district departments to support school operations and special projects.
- Collaborate with water boards, irrigation users, homeowners associations, and adjacent property stakeholders to coordinate shared water use, access, and maintenance activities.
- Respond to after-hours or urgent grounds needs as required.
- Serve as a member of the district crisis response team, providing operational support as needed.
- Support implementation of the District Emergency Closing Procedure Plan.
