Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for an Associate Vice Chancellor of Facilities Management! Under the general direction of the Vice Chancellor for Infrastructure and Resilience, the position is responsible for providing overall strategic leadership, coordination and administrative oversight for the development, maintenance and repair of campus facilities and infrastructure and the delivery of logistical services. Responsibilities include oversight of physical plant operations, facilities maintenance and repair, custodial services, solid waste and recycling programs, grounds maintenance, utility generation and distribution, energy management, central receiving, warehousing and distribution services.

The position is directly responsible for approximately 7.2 million square feet of highly complex building space comprised of research laboratories, classrooms and offices; indirectly supports an additional 6.3 million square feet of housing, dining, recreation, athletic and research facilities space; maintains over 1,000 acres of land holdings; and is responsible for the campus’ utility systems including co-generated electricity and steam; chilled water;

potable water; wastewater; storm water; and irrigation. The position is also responsible for central receiving and distribution; domestic and export shipping; warehouse storage services; processing and delivery of U.S. and university mail and packages; surplus property processing and disposal; moving and hauling services; and management of classroom furniture.

The Facilities Management organization has approximately 450 permanent employees. The role is responsible for annual operating budgets of over $47 million and a utilities auxiliary account of approximately $43 million.

What Your

Key Responsibilities Will Be Strategic and Operational Oversight
  • Develop and implement strategic, business, financial and operational plans for the Facilities Management organization to ensure proper coordination and cost effectiveness in support of campus mission, goals and objectives. Provide direction and ensure success for all facilities management activities supporting campus needs.
  • Continuously evaluate business processes to ensure the department is providing effective and efficient services to the campus. Leverage data analytics to review trends, costs, and opportunities to improve business operations.
Department and Campus Communications Management
  • Implement dynamic strategies to instill and maintain a culture of safety within the entire organization.
  • Emphasize exceptional customer service and proactively communicate with the campus community about services provided.
  • Work in concert with the campus community to ensure facilities operations and services are consistently responsive to the needs of campus, and ensures the continuity of the university’s mission of education and research. Participate on the campus Incident Management Team and represent the campus on local and regional utility issues.
Leadership and Management
  • Provide leadership and integrate continuous process improvement, safety, sustainability and resilience into our core operating practices, plans, and projects. Improve sustainable supply chain management, enhance energy security and resilience for critical facilities and missions, focus on life cycle cost analysis for investments in facilities, and reduce use of chemicals in facilities operations among other sustainability and resilience initiatives.
