The Project Engineering Group Lead is responsible for providing technical leadership for project engineers; managing and executing capital projects in support of pharmaceutical drug substance, intermediates, and fine chemical development and production. The Group Lead provides strong technical leadership in civil, mechanical, and equipment and facilities design and installation projects, while ensuring project costs, schedules, quality control, and regulatory compliance throughout the project life cycles.
They interact with management to develop project objectives, department goals, and site concepts, advising on technical opportunities and advances.
- Takes a lead role in working with the project owner and supporting staff to develop the project business case and objectives, evaluating alternatives and communicating proposals to stakeholders and management.
- Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs the entire engineering effort for assigned projects; mentors on other complex projects, ensuring cost, scope, and schedule requirements are met.
- Reviews project design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and specifications, leading feasibility evaluations.
- Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for projects, securing resources such as technical studies, system design, specifications, construction, and qualification.
- Leads resolution of disputes and conflicts with external contractors, vendors, and stakeholders.
- Coaches, mentors, and trains engineers on technical and business issues, managing change and fostering a productive team environment.
- Manages user requirement specifications, scope development, process design, funding requests, equipment standards, project controls, implementation logistics, dispute resolution, design performance problems, construction supervision, building permits, and qualification and validation efforts.
- Acts as Technical Lead for Project Engineering concerns when interacting with customers.
- Provides updates to Production Management and Leadership Team regarding project progress, issues, and results.
The Group Lead supplies leadership to project engineers, setting goals, assigning work, planning and prioritization, and training. Supervisory duties include daily leadership, hiring, performance appraisals, rewards, discipline, and daily conflict resolution. The position develops scopes, justifications, cost budgets, personnel requirements, and timelines to meet project objectives, fostering a positive team atmosphere.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering (BSChE) from a 4‑year college or university plus 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
