Position: Fabrication (QA) Technician

Job Overview

Fabrication/QA Technician

Excelitas is a global technology leader focused on delivering market-driven solutions for illumination, optical, detection, and imaging needs across biomedical, semiconductor, industrial, consumer products, science, security, defense, and aerospace sectors.

Responsibilities
  • Perform visual inspections for optics surface quality in accordance with specifications and standardized procedures.
  • Perform dimensional inspections using hand‑held measurement instruments and/or automated or programmable measurement equipment.
  • Measure and inspect complex optics and optical assemblies using standardized and non‑traditional methods and equipment as instructed, including necessary setup.
  • Read and understand drawings to determine specifications.
  • Read and follow process sheets, prints, coating scans, interferometer scans, and material certificates.
  • Complete First Article Inspections with little assistance.
  • Identify improvements in processes, such as reduction of handling, measuring, storing, etc., and communicate those ideas to the Sustaining/Quality Engineering team.
  • Takes initiative to get drawings or process sheets corrected, where applicable.
  • Support Process Engineering by conducting Tests of the Day (TOD) and specific data collection while working toward validating the reduction of inspections and metrology measurements.
  • Generate non‑conforming materials reports and communicate with Engineering.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and training to Level I QA Technicians and develop Manufacturing Technicians to conduct self‑qualification.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of moderate to complex math calculations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ANSI Y14.5) and the ability to read and understand technical specifications and standards used in the optics industry.
  • 3+ years of experience in a quality assurance, quality control, or inspector position in a manufacturing environment.
