Boulder, CO
Pay: $30–$40/hour (DOE)

About the Role

This is a hands‑on precision manufacturing role focused on operating single‑point diamond turning equipment to produce high‑quality optical components. You’ll support both low‑ and high‑volume production of infrared lenses and metal mirrors, working within tight tolerances and strict quality standards. This is a strong fit for someone who enjoys technical machining work, understands precision, and takes pride in delivering accurate, high‑quality parts.

What You’ll Do
  • Operate and maintain single‑point diamond turning equipment in a production environment
  • Adjust, set up, and operate state‑of‑the‑art lathe equipment, including understanding programming and tool paths
  • Read and interpret complex engineering prints to determine tolerances and specifications
  • Perform mechanical inspections using micrometers, optical comparators, dial indicators, and drop gauges
  • Measure and verify diameter, sag, center thickness, and overall dimensional accuracy
  • Apply knowledge of feed rate, depth of cut, and spindle speeds to maintain quality across materials
  • Clean and visually inspect components to ensure compliance with quality standards
  • Inspect and properly handle diamond tools, understanding tool features and applications
  • Utilize optical metrology equipment such as interferometers and surface profilometers for inspection
  • Modify and work with G & M code and tool paths as needed
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace and follow documentation procedures
  • Support ongoing improvements in manufacturing processes
What You Bring
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • 2+ years of diamond turning, optics manufacturing, or similar precision machining experience preferred
  • CNC lathe experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of geometry, trigonometry, and basic math
  • Experience reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings
  • Familiarity with tool path software such as Diff Sys or similar
  • Understanding of G & M code and tool path adjustments
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel and Windows
