Job Description:
High Precision Devices, Inc. (HPD) is a successful and growing Boulder-based company specializing in the design, development, and manufacturing of advanced scientific instrumentation. For more than 30 years, HPD has delivered highly engineered solutions that integrate ultra-low temperature cryogenics, precision mechanics, vacuum systems, optics, and electronics for customers around the world.
We are seeking an Electro-Mechanical Assembly Technician to support the assembly, testing, installation, and service of complex scientific and industrial systems. This role is ideal for a skilled technician who can independently perform sophisticated electro-mechanical assembly work, troubleshoot issues, recommend process improvements, and contribute to the successful delivery of high-quality products. The technician will work from engineering documentation and established procedures while exercising sound judgment to resolve routine and non-routine production challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble, integrate, modify, and test electro-mechanical systems, assemblies, and subassemblies using engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, bills of material (BOMs), and work instructions.
- Independently perform mechanical assembly, wiring, soldering, cable fabrication, and system integration activities to meet quality and performance requirements.
- Fabricate and assemble electrical wiring harnesses, cable assemblies, and connectors utilizing soldering, crimping, and other precision assembly techniques.
- Conduct functional, electrical, and mechanical testing of assemblies and complete systems; document results and identify corrective actions when required.
- Troubleshoot assembly, wiring, and system performance issues, determining root causes and implementing solutions with limited supervision.
- Create, update, and improve detailed work instructions, assembly procedures, and documentation to ensure product consistency and manufacturing efficiency.
- Participate in prototype builds, new product introductions, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, manufacturability, and reliability.
- Support the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of HPD systems at customer sites.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities, diagnose equipment issues, and complete service documentation.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality teams to resolve technical issues and improve processes.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, ensuring tools, equipment, and materials are properly maintained and utilized.
- Adhere to company quality standards, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Preferred
Experience and Qualifications:
- Experience in a high-tech manufacturing, instrumentation, semiconductor, aerospace, scientific equipment, or similar precision manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience supporting customer installations, field service, or equipment maintenance is highly desirable.
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, assembly prints, and technical work instructions.
- Proficiency in soldering, crimping, cable assembly, wire harness fabrication, and electro-mechanical system integration.
- Working knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills for electro-mechanical equipment and assemblies.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to identify process improvements and recommend solutions to improve efficiency, quality, and reliability.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across functional teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with ERP/MRP systems preferred.
