Corrections Nurse – Jail Division (Registered Nurse / Licensed Practical Nurse)

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office seeks a qualified Corrections Nurse to provide 24‑hour health care to inmates at the Boulder County Jail. This role requires a current Colorado nursing license, experience in medical assessment, and the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as a variable‑FTE or hourly position.

• Obtain health histories and assess inmates for illness or injury.
• Communicate with classifying, medical, and mental‑health personnel regarding housing, treatments, and interventions.
• Implement medical protocols and administer medications according to dosage guidelines.
• Coordinate appointments, transfers, and laboratory specimen collection.
• Assist medical providers during doctor rounds and respond to medical emergencies.
• Document all health information in inmate medical records.
• Participate in unit staff meetings and contribute to quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Orient and train new nursing personnel.

Education & Experience: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in Colorado. Prior experience in medical assessments and corrective‑health settings is required.

Testing: Must pass a polygraph, drug screen, and background investigation. Marijuana or non‑dutiful possession of marijuana is prohibited by federal law and county policy.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Excellent organizational and assessment skills.
• Critical thinking and strong interpersonal communication.
• Comprehensive knowledge of correctional health‑care standards and community nursing practices.
• Understanding of security issues related to inmate health care.
• Experience with mental‑health and substance‑abuse interventions is preferred.
