Salary: Pay for this position is determined by the 169-day Teacher Salary Schedule and based on education and experience. Salary Range $45,638-$78,497.

Purpose of the Job: In collaboration with and as directed by the District Lead Nurse, the Registered Nurse shall assume responsibility for program planning, coordination, and implementation of student health services. As assigned by the District Lead Nurse, the RN shall observe, consult with, and assist other school personnel regarding the various health-related needs of students enrolled in regular and special education programs.
The RN shall serve as a liaison between the school and community-based medical/health service providers and agency representatives. In collaboration with the District Lead Nurse, this RN role will be responsible for scheduling and providing Growth and Development instruction throughout the district.
- Education: Minimum BA/BS
- Experience: Such qualifications as the Special Services Director requires
- Licenses/Certificates: Must hold a State of Colorado Registered Nursing License and Colorado Department of Education Special Service License.
- Must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check and be cleared for licensing.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students and the public.
- Ability to effectively read, write, speak and listen to comply with directions and instructions to complete tasks and establish priorities.
- Integrity, trust and work ethic to be able to work with little supervision.
- Competent understanding of technology to perform the job.
- Must pass pre-employment physical.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Physical capabilities to be able to:
- stand, sit and/or move about for sustained periods,
- move about in non-traditional instructional environments (i.e. areas of the community),
- report to multiple work sites in a given day or during the work week,
- communicate effectively in person and via telephone and other electronic media to individuals and groups of varying sizes,
- exercise physical control over students who are acting out and/or offer physical assistance to students who might themselves be physically impaired,
- conduct instructional programs within pre-designated break periods and time schedules, and
- maintain an appropriate personal demeanor during periods of heightened stress created by outside factors not always within the ability of the School Nurse to control at the time.
- Implements appropriate physical and technical safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of district data.
- Maintains good security practices with passwords and accounts to the various district systems and applications.
- Reports actual or suspected breaches in the confidentiality, integrity or availability of district data to appropriate district personnel.
- Follows all board policies for acceptable use of district technology.
- Model the District's Mission and Belief Statements.
- Under the supervision of the District Lead Nurse, responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating school health services, policies and procedures.
- Identify the health care needs of the student population and secure information/resources to meet those needs.
- Maximize the quantity of in-class time by reducing incidents of health related absenteeism which impair learning.
- Promote the highest degree of independent functioning possible among students and health technicians, and willing to delegate nursing tasks under his/her license to the building-level health technicians.
- Collaborate in a positive manner with a wide variety of school professionals to enhance the educational process and promote an optimal level of wellness for students, families and staff.
- Assure the district is in compliance with mandated health service activities.
- Assure that health-related policies and related procedures adhere to legal and regulatory requirements and ethical standards of nursing practice.
- Document, compile and analyze data for required reports on school health services, then utilize such data for the improvement of school health services.
- Assure that school health services and activities are appropriately documented according to professional school nurse standards.
- Implement communicable disease control in the school, including monitoring, surveillance and participating in disease prevention and outbreak management within the school.
