Float OB / Med Surg

Gerber Med Surg unit consists of 13 beds: 4 observation and 9 inpatient. The unit is undergoing a refresh with new paint, flooring, artwork, a new nurses station, breakroom, and staff bathroom. Gerber Med Surg handles a large patient population and offers telemedicine services in pulmonology, neurology, infectious disease, wound care, and soon palliative care. The unit also provides MRI (6 days a week), CT, fluoroscopy, general and orthopedic surgery, care management, and on‑site medical social workers.

Gerber OB covers 7 inpatient rooms for labor/delivery, recovery, and postpartum, 1 short‑term observation room, 3 bed triage for prenatal testing/other procedures, and 1 surgical suite for C‑sections.

Deliver nursing care responsibly and accountably as described by the ANA and legally by the State of Michigan. Demonstrate competency through the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Uphold ANA standards of professional performance including ethical practice, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality of practice, professional practice evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.

• Provide comprehensive nursing care in OB and Med Surg settings.
• Apply critical thinking and the nursing process to patient assessment and care planning.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to achieve quality outcomes.
• Document all care activities in accordance with state and ANA regulations.
• Adhere to infection control, safety, and quality improvement protocols.
• Support patients and families in a culturally competent and compassionate manner.

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
• Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan, active within the last 5 years.
• American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days.
• AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months.
• Level III Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA within 180 days.
• Level III Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC – ENA) within 1 year.
• Level III Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC – ENA) within 1 year.

Full‑time night shift: 7:00pm–7:30am. Variable weekend frequency: every third weekend.

Gerber Hospital – 212 Sullivan, Fremont.
