Overview

The Southwest Conservation Corps (SCC) Individual Placement (IP) Program connects young adults with hands-on opportunities to support public lands and community needs through Ameri Corps service. IP members serve alongside land management agencies and nonprofit partners across Colorado, gaining practical experience in natural resource and wildlife management. Individual Placements assist with projects related to wildlife habitat, vegetation, and ecosystem monitoring. Members contribute to mapping, reporting, and summarizing field findings that inform land and habitat management decisions.

IPs gain field skills and exposure to conservation careers and public land stewardship.

Member Duties
  • Ameri Corps member will support the Wildlife Program at the Bureau of Land Management Royal Gorge Field Office during the field season by assisting with wildlife research, monitoring, and inventory projects on public lands.
  • Conduct field surveys of wildlife and vegetation, identify and classify species, and collect and record ecological data in treatment and control sites.
  • Assist with bird and sensitive species surveys, locate and monitor nests, document observations, and maintain databases of species locations and activity.
  • Gain experience in study design, field data collection, data management, analysis, and communicating findings that inform species and habitat management decisions.
