our technicians are integral members of the medical team. You'll do far more than restrain patients and draw blood, you'll be encouraged to think critically, contribute to case management, and use the full breadth of your training every day.
lvts are trusted to carry out delegated clinical responsibilities with meaningful professional autonomy, consistent with michigan law, hospital protocols, and collaboration with the veterinarian. Our veterinarians retain responsibility for diagnosing disease, prescribing medications, performing surgery, and providing prognoses.

what you'll do- perform patient assessments and case preparation: obtain complete histories and clinical data, identify and document concerns, initiate approved diagnostics and basic-care protocols, and present cases to the veterinarian for collaborative prioritization and medical direction.
- triage sick and injured pets by phone and upon arrival, including urgent-care and limited emergencies.
- conduct outpatient lvt appointments.
- perform and manage in-house and reference laboratory diagnostics, including cytology preparation.
- apply and continue developing advanced technical skills appropriate to your training and experience,including wellness care assessments, advanced anesthesia monitoring, surgical assisting, blood-product support, and comprehensive client education consistent with michigan law, hospital protocols, and veterinarian direction.
- perform radiology, dentistry, anesthesia induction, monitoring and recovery, nursing care, and client education.
- assist with and help lead surgical and dental procedures while providing exceptional perioperative patient care.
- use safe restraint techniques in accordance with standard protocols.
- administer treatments and medications as directed by the veterinarian; fill and manage prescriptions, including in-house and online pharmacy requests.
- educate clients on preventive care, treatment plans, nutrition, medication administration, and home care.
- collaborate closely with veterinarians to provide outstanding patient outcomes.
- train, support, and help develop veterinary assistants, sharing knowledge that strengthens team confidence and efficiency

- a current, valid michigan licensed veterinary technician license is required to hold the lvt position and title.
- graduate of an accredited veterinary technician program with an associate or bachelor degree.
- one year of experience in an lvt role preferred.
- understanding of preventive medicine, including examinations, laboratory testing, vaccinations, and disease complexes.
- surgery induction, monitoring, and recovery experience.

- strong communication skills with clients, doctors, management, hospital personnel, specialists, consulting professionals, and teammates.
