A customer service-based position that involves inspecting for invasive Zebra/Quagga Mussels, Milfoil, or other plant species on boats and personal watercraft at an inspection point at Jumbo Reservoir. This is an important position for the protection of natural resources from non-native species that threaten wildlife, drinking water/irrigation and all water related outdoor recreation in the State of Colorado.

LEAD Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Inspector
  • Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at Jumbo Reservoir near Crook, Colorado. Site lead boat inspector will be responsible for providing on the job training to inspection staff, create schedules and make sure all shifts are covered during operational hours, collect and verify accurate time keeping records for payroll purposes, work with area work lead to resolve challenges with staff and customers, and recommend hiring/firing of employees to area work lead.

    Additional responsibilities include ensuring inspection station staff are following standardized protocols by performing quality control assessments on a monthly basis, ensure that data entry is being performed accurately and completely by all inspection station staff, maintain inventory of all required supplies, perform basic maintenance & troubleshooting on power washer/decontamination unit, and provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species. Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required.
STAFF Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Inspector
  • Will perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols. Work will either be completed independently or in pairs to inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir, with respect to invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels. Provide public outreach on the aquatic invasive species topic by providing printed material to those visiting the reservoir. The position will report directly to the boat ramp.

    Boat inspection training will be provided. Early morning, evening and weekend work required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (LEAD)
  • Good driving record and ability to work weekends, early mornings, and late evenings.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent customer service experience working with the public.
  • Reliable and timely.
  • Ability to self‑motivate and work independently.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma.
  • Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines, and/or heavy equipment preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word applications– Word, Excel, Access
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (NON LEAD)
  • Ability to work weekends, early mornings, and late evenings.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent customer service experience working with the public desired.
  • Reliable and timely.
  • Ability to self‑motivate and work independently.
