PREP Research Associate
Salary: $78,000 - $80,500 a year
General Description:
This position is part of the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. NIST recognizes that its research staff may wish to collaborate with researchers at academic institutions on specific projects of mutual interest, thus requires that such institutions must be the recipient of a PREP award. The PREP program requires staff from a wide range of backgrounds to work on scientific research in many areas.
Employees in this position will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration.
Quantum information processing with mixed species trapped ions
Work will entail- The candidate will work in a team on implementing basic building blocks of scalable quantum information processing with mixed species trapped ions.
- Work with a team made up of NIST permanent staff members, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate students to upgrade existing apparatus.
- Plan and build new parts of the apparatus.
- Implement and evaluate experiments.
- Disseminate results of experiments through publication in journals and presentations.
- U.S. Citizen Preferred
- PhD degree in physics or equivalent degree from a foreign university.
- Experience in experimental design and execution of experimental work in an atomic physics laboratory.
- Good understanding of laser technology and nonlinear frequency conversion.
