General Description
This position is part of the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. The role involves technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration on quantum information processing with mixed species trapped ions.
Position TitlePREP Research Associate
Salary$78,000 - $80,500 per year.
Key Responsibilities- Implement basic building blocks of scalable quantum information processing with mixed species trapped ions.
- Collaborate with NIST permanent staff, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate students to upgrade existing apparatus.
- Plan and build new components of the apparatus.
- Implement and evaluate experiments.
- Disseminate results through publication in journals and presentations.
- U.S. citizen preferred.
- PhD in physics or equivalent degree from a foreign university.
- Experience in experimental design and execution in an atomic physics laboratory.
- Good understanding of laser technology and nonlinear frequency conversion.
The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
