Postdoctoral Research Associate
The successful candidate will contribute to an interdisciplinary research program focused on the behavior, ecology, and integrative physiology of wild canids, including gray wolves, coyotes, and foxes, in the American West (Colorado, Wyoming, Montana). The successful candidate will have experience with: (i) integrative research on free-ranging canids in the American West, as well as relationship building with associated stakeholders (i.e., nonprofit partners, agency and wildlife managers, recreation managers, agriculturalists);
(ii) ecological research of other large, social mammals; (iii) back-country fieldwork in the American West; and (iv) academic writing. The successful candidate will work with the PI to design and conduct independent and collaborative research projects that integrate field based ecological research with behavioral and physiological analyses. The successful candidate will also prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present research findings at scientific conferences and professional meetings.
Responsibilities include conducting and managing fieldwork in remote and challenging environments, collecting ecological and biological data, managing research datasets, and applying quantitative and statistical approaches to analyze behavioral, physiological, genetic, and spatial data. Grant Development & Funding:
The position also includes responsibility for supporting the development and administration of externally funded research programs. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will assist with the preparation, writing, and submission of competitive grant proposals to federal agencies, foundations, and other funding organizations. Additional responsibilities include contributing to project coordination and laboratory management, maintaining organized research records and databases, overseeing field and laboratory logistics, and ensuring compliance with university, state, and federal regulations related to research activities, animal care, and field safety.
Inclusive Mentorship & Training:
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will also play a mentorship and leadership role within the laboratory. The successful candidate will assist in supervising and mentoring PhD students, MS students, Honors undergraduate students, field technicians, and research assistants. Responsibilities include training students and personnel in field methods, data analysis, scientific writing, and research ethics while fostering a collaborative and inclusive research environment.
The individual will actively participate in laboratory meetings, departmental activities, and collaborative research initiatives, and will contribute to the university's broader research, training, and outreach mission.
The annual salary for this 50% position is $30,000 from July 1 - December 31, 2026
