Postdoctoral Researcher – PEM Electrolysis Electrode Development.

The role is in NLR’s Chemistry and Nanoscience Center focusing on PEM water electrolysis, specifically novel electrode development for PEM electrolyzers and related energy conversion devices. The successful candidate will develop and characterize advanced electrode materials and test PEM electrolyzers.

• Develop novel PEM electrodes for use in electrolyzers and other electrochemical devices.
• Conduct synthesis, characterization, and performance testing of PEM electrodes and cell properties.
• Analyze electrode morphology and assess impacts of processing and chemistry on structure, performance, and durability.
• Test and evaluate PEM electrolyzer performance and durability.
• Publish findings and present at conferences or workshops.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to broader research goals.

• Recent PhD graduate within the last three years (must meet educational requirements prior to start).
• Experience in synthesis of PEM electrolysis electrodes.
• Experience in characterization of PEM electrodes and cell properties focused on physical and electrochemical properties.
• Understanding of electrode morphology and the relationship between processing, chemical nature, structure, performance, and durability of PEM electrolytes.
• Experience testing PEM electrolyzers.
• Track record of success in addressing fundamental and applied science questions and devising solutions to challenging problems.

• Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science & engineering.
• Record of publications/presentations in polymer electrolytes, electrolyzers, and/or fuel cells.
• Skilled in interpreting and assessing experimental results.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Annual Salary Range: $76,600 - $126,400 (based on full-time 40 hours per week). Salary determined by education, training, experience, and internal alignment. Eligibility for performance, merit, and achievement awards and relocation expense reimbursement.
