Research Scientist, Biotech Research
The In Vitro Manager reports directly to the Executive Director, Inflammation and Systems Biology, and oversees development, execution, and analysis of In Vitro biology and overall management of the In Vitro Division. The role includes new study design, client interactions, experimental troubleshooting of biomarkers of disease from various In Vitro models, independent work, and management of department staff. Exempt position, $92,000–$130,000.
PrimaryDuties
- Take the lead in designing and executing cell and molecular biology assays to analyze biomarkers.
- Perform laboratory techniques: tissue processing, RNA/DNA isolation, ELISA, Luminex, qRT-PCR, multi‑color flow cytometry.
- Design new study protocols and launch custom In Vitro assays for specific customer needs.
- Provide input to scientists and teams on new assay development and biomarker selection.
- Conduct data analysis and quality control of custom and commercial assays.
- Lead communication and coordination with division members, management, study coordinators, and other departments.
- Manage direct‑report schedules and workflow.
- Assist direct reports and junior scientists with experimental design and troubleshooting.
- Lead process improvement within the division, including SOP generation, presentations, data analysis, etc.
- Follow all SOPs and comply with regulations and safety requirements.
- Lab supply ordering and inventory as needed.
- Business development and new client outreach.
- Collaboration with other sites for knowledge transfer and new study design.
- Other tasks as assigned.
- Master’s in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
- More than 10 years of wet‑lab experience.
- Expertise and strong understanding of immunoassays, molecular biology, and cell biology techniques.
- Excellent analytical, writing, presentation and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and statistical analysis (Graph Pad).
Physical Requirements
The position combines laboratory and computer work with occasional live‑animal exposure. Some work requires PPE, handling of BSL‑2 pathogens and samples, accurate calculations, and lab record keeping. The role requires standing or sitting for long periods, lifting up to 30 lbs., and moving racks or large items on wheels. Effective teamwork, organizational, and communication skills are essential.
