Fire Smoke Scientist

The Hannigan Air Quality (HAQ) Lab is seeking a Fire Smoke Scientist. This role will involve training HAQ Lab PhD students to use the group's chemical characterization equipment and to undertake emissions monitoring. Additionally, the person in the role will also support field work for the NSF Firebrand project.

The Hannigan Air Quality Lab is working on a collaborative NSF funded project to better understand and model firebrand emissions for wildland fires. The HAQ Lab role is to characterize firebrand emissions from the windcline and local prescribed fires. The job specifically is for an expert to train an incoming graduate student on how to undertake this characterization.

The key responsibilities for this role will be training a new PhD student and kickstarting a new approach to field work in which firebrand is assessed.

The hire rate for this part-time, temporary position is $30.00 per hour.

Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.

The applicant should know how to undertake organic analysis of smoke and how to determine emission factors from solid fuel combustion.
