Role Overview

Retail Store General Manager – Boulder, CO. Reports to Retail District Manager. People Manager with M2 scope. Core responsibilities include leading a high‑impact customer experience, driving business profitability, fostering a culture of inclusion, and promoting Patagonia’s environmental activism.

  • Allocate 18 hours of activist time each month.
  • Partner with local non‑profits and manage grants and donations.
  • Encourage team participation and customer engagement in activism.
  • Leadership
  • Maintain an approachable presence, prioritize delegation, coach, and identify growth opportunities.
  • Support the hiring and onboarding of employees aligned with Patagonia’s philosophy.
  • Business Strategy
  • Plan and prioritize work to meet expense and profit goals.
  • Develop contingency plans and networking opportunities with local partners.
  • Training & Hiring
  • Assist in hiring and training of store team members.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to foster development.
  • Product & Business Knowledge
  • Stay current on product technical aspects and new services.
  • Incorporate knowledge into everyday customer service.
  • Warehouse Operations
  • Process shipments, support inventory, and restock the sales floor.
  • Handle product transfers, donations, and returns in line with the Ironclad Guarantee and Worn Wear Program.
  • Visual Merchandising
  • Support Visual Team and maintain store visual standards.
  • Marketing
  • Participate in the Retail Marketing Program and event production.
  • Security & Loss Prevention
  • Implement security measures to prevent theft and handle safety situations.
  • Inclusion
  • Create a supportive, respectful, harassment‑free work environment.
  • Other Duties
  • Open and close the store, manage scheduling, payroll, staff meetings, and POS operations.
  • Connect with IT and Order Management departments to support store operations.
Qualifications
  • Team Management experience and passion for employee growth.
  • Retail Management with ability to analyze P&L statements.
  • Approachability and flexibility in teamwork.
  • High emotional intelligence and conflict management skills.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities while maintaining workplace morale.
  • Effective written and verbal communication; documentation of coaching.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proactive problem solving and sound judgment.
Physical Requirements

Stand or walk for extended periods; reach overhead, bend, squat, kneel, and carry products up to 55 pounds. Climb ladders, walk stairs with boxes, and perform general store maintenance tasks such as sweeping and vacuuming.

Schedule

Stores run seven days a week. Boulder store hours:
Sunday–Wednesday 10:00‑18:00;
Thursday–Saturday 10:00‑19:00. Hires 30–39 hours per week with at least one weekend day required. Minimum opening/closing shift per week. Expect flexibility around business needs and keep schedule posted up to three weeks in advance.

Salary

$62,700.00 – $94,100.00 USD annually. Pay range reflects local market median and may vary by skills, experience, and budget.
