Position OverviewThe Medicinal Chemistry group at Ambrosia Biosciences is seeking a motivated and skilled chemist to join our team as a Senior Associate Scientist or Scientist
. This is a high-impact, laboratory-intensive role designed for an enthusiastic scientist eager to grow their career in drug discovery.
Working alongside experienced drug hunters, you will focus on the synthesis, purification, and characterization of novel small molecules to support our discovery programs. The level of the position will be determined based on the candidate’s education and industry experience.
Key Responsibilities- Synthetic Chemistry:
Execute multi-step organic syntheses of novel small molecules on milligram to gram scale to support Structure-Activity Relationship (SAR) studies. - Purification & Analysis:
Independently perform reaction work-ups, purification (flash chromatography, HPLC), and compound characterization using modern analytical techniques (NMR, LC-MS). - Experimental Design:
- Senior Associate Scientist: Execute complex experiments designed by senior staff and contribute to route scouting.
- Scientist: Independently design synthetic routes, troubleshoot reaction failures, and propose alternative strategies.
- Data Management:
Maintain an up-to-date and compliant electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) and register compounds into the company database. - Collaboration:
Work closely with the biology and ADME teams to understand assay results and iterate on compound design. - Lab Operations:
Contribute to general laboratory maintenance, safety, and instrument troubleshooting to ensure an efficient work environment.
- Senior Associate Scientist: B.S./B.A. with 2–4 years of experience OR M.S. with 0–2 years of experience in organic synthesis or medicinal chemistry.
- Scientist:
Ph.D. with 0–2 years of experience OR M.S. with 3–5 years of relevant industry experience.
- Solid theoretical and practical knowledge of organic chemistry reactions and mechanisms.
- Hands-on experience with modern synthetic techniques, including anhydrous reaction handling and chromatographic purification of reaction products.
- Proficiency in operating and interpreting data from standard analytical instruments (NMR, LC-MS).
- Ability to troubleshoot synthetic challenges and optimize reaction conditions.
- Professional Attributes:
- Self-motivated and organized, with the ability to manage multiple experiments simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong desire to learn drug discovery principles and grow scientifically within the organization.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Familiarity with chemical drawing software (i.e. Chem Draw), literature and chemical compound database searching (i.e. Sci Finder) and MS Office.
- Previous exposure to drug discovery projects in either an academic or industry setting.
- Salary range:
- Senior Associate Scientist: $70,000 – $90,000 annually
- Scientist: $90,000 – $110,000 annually
- Eligible for an annual bonus based on company performance.
- Participation in Ambrosia Biosciences’ stock option plan.
- 401(k) plan with 4% company matching.
