OverviewThe National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) seeks a graduate intern with experience in life cycle assessment, economics or finance to contribute to the Wind Energy Impacts and End of Service Technical Assistance project. The role focuses on assessing environmental, economic and community impacts of wind component processing and critical mineral recovery.
Responsibilities- Research and analyze the economic, job, and workforce impacts of wind component processing and critical mineral recovery under varying timelines and scenarios.
- Identify current domestic processors and estimate capacity.
- Assess local impacts from increased deployment of new processing facilities and/or infrastructure.
- Conduct life cycle assessment of component‑dependent processing approaches.
- Conduct outreach to component processors and industry experts.
- Develop resources and information materials to support stakeholder knowledge sharing.
- Assist in writing quality reports on component processing scenarios.
- Perform job and workforce analysis for various scenarios.
- Support modeling and analysis of critical mineral and material recovery, collaborating with other researchers.
- Gather stakeholder input related to component processing impacts.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Undergraduate:
Full‑time enrollment in a bachelor’s program. - Post‑Undergraduate:
Earned bachelor’s degree within the past 12 months. - Graduate:
Full‑time enrollment in a master’s program. - Post‑Graduate:
Earned master’s degree within the past 12 months. - Graduate + PhD:
Completed master’s and enrolled as a PhD student. - Demonstrated stakeholder engagement and interviewing skills.
- Strong technical communication skills.
- Experience with life cycle assessment methodologies.
- Financial analysis skills.
- Ability to work well independently and within a team under guidance.
