Position Details- Title: Emergency Communications Specialist
- Location: CO – Golden
- Position Type: Regular
- Hours per week: 40
The Emergency Communications Specialist (ECS) serves as a critical information conduit between emergency response and the NLR community. The ECS operates NLR’s Central Monitoring Station (CMS) and is the primary point of contact during on‑site emergencies for the South Table Mountain Campus, Flatirons Campus, and local leased facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Operate the Central Monitoring Station, providing 24/7, 365 support across three shifts.
- Monitor fire and life safety alarms, security and surveillance systems, and determine appropriate emergency or non‑emergency responses.
- Contact emergency services (e.g., 911) when necessary, dispatch internal responders, and maintain detailed logs and reports.
- Provide customer service to NLR staff, management, visitors, vendors, first responders, and subcontractors.
- Deliver training on the CMS and standard operating procedures to all personnel.
- Assist with after‑action reviews and best‑practice identification for both internal and external responders.
- Operate and monitor site security systems, including access control, fire/life safety alarms, CCTV, and intrusion detection.
- Shift 1: 2300 – 0730
- Shift 2: 0700 – 1530
- Shift 3: 1500 – 2330
- High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 4 years of relevant experience, or an associate’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Strong communication, multitasking, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to maintain calm and effective performance in high‑stress situations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and ability to quickly and accurately enter detailed information.
- Proficiency in using specialized software and maintaining confidentiality.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a DOE Q‑level clearance.
- Prior experience as a 911 dispatcher for EMS, fire, police, or other emergency services.
Annual Salary Range: $57,900 – $95,500 (Specialist III)
