The opportunity is intended for applicants without a Colorado POST Certification (Non-Certified). Candidates who receive an offer will have the opportunity to attend POST Academy with tuition paid by the Office, and will be paid by LCSO while attending. Offers are made to top candidates based on vacancies, funding, and academy seats available; the list does not guarantee a position within a year.

Patrol Recruits start at Step 1 – Deputy Non-Certified pay rate of $36.04/hour. After graduation from the POST Academy, deputies will be moved to the Step 1 – Deputy Certified pay rate of $39.65/hour.

• Provide law enforcement duties, including protection of citizens and crime prevention, while maintaining security and order. May perform duties of the Deputy Non-Certified if assigned to the Jail.
• Effectively communicate to provide information, directions, mediation and de‑escalate situations to resolve conflicts.
• Determine when there is reasonable suspicion to detain and when probable cause exists to search, arrest, and use appropriate force.
• Subdue resisting suspects using approved arrest control techniques, defensive tactics, and approved weapons.
• Pursue fleeing suspects.
• Testify and attend court and other formal settings as necessary.
• Read, understand, prepare, and process legal and non‑legal documents.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age by date of hire.
• First aid and community CPR certificates required within 12 weeks of hire.
• Possession of a valid driver's license required.
• No criminal convictions as defined by Colorado POST.
