Job Description

Summary:

Under limited supervision, the OSMP Crew Lead role provides support and leadership to execute trail program objectives as well as department wide plans that support all charted land uses and open space purposes. Crew leads are responsible for field and project management, skills development, and administrative and logistical support of their crew and overall trails program. The Trail Crew Lead is expected to perform and guide others in trail construction and maintenance under minimal supervision.

As a Crew Lead, you will coordinate and direct work with other agency partners such as OSMP Jr. Rangers, conservation corps crews, volunteers, and other groups and individuals assigned to trail projects. This position requires hiking up to 10 hours per day, carrying a backpack and hand tools, and working outside in inclement weather and in mountainous terrain.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Coordinates daily tasks of crews to complete routine maintenance, repair and construction on trails and related structures and facilities

Provides field support, training, and comprehensive performance evaluations to crew Conducts daily safety briefings and completes safety logs.

Stays engaged and motivates others with the task at hand for up to 10 hours at a time, especially when tasks are repetitive and physical in nature.

Maintains regular communication on status of projects with project managers and supervisors

Develops and facilitates on-the-job tool training, leadership, and team development activities to crews and other agency partners

Delivers instruction on specialized skills such as rigging, dry stone construction, carpentry, and mechanized equipment.

Openly shares successes and challenges to support team learning and individual growth.

Records daily work completed using asset management software

Takes before and after photos of projects

Communicates project timeline, deliverables, and progress to project managers and supervisors

Creates end of project reports that highlight challenges and work completed

Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents.

Ensures safety of self, others, materials, and equipment.

Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to city property.

Knows all policies inclusive of safety and reporting any damage or infractions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAbility to work in a collaborative manner to help execute trail program objectives. Ability to demonstrate commitment to mentoring others, answering questions, and providing a safe space to learn ensuring crews conduct work efficiently, effectively, and in a safe manner.

Ability to judge weather conditions.

Ability to anticipate unsafe circumstances and takes precautions to prevent accidents.

Ability to complete work in a timely and consistent manner.

Ability to instruct or mentor creating a safe learning environment.

Ability to leading others with emotional intelligence by motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.

Ability to maintains a positive team environment and refers issues appropriately to their immediate supervisor.

Ability to perform risk and hazard analysis and implement proper safety controls.

Ability to recognize needs, assess possible methods to meet needs, and act on solutions.

Ability to represent the City of Boulder and Open Space and Mountain Parks with integrity when interacting with the public and project partners.

Ability to take initiative identifying what needs to be done and does it before being asked or before the situation requires it.

Ability to use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new concepts.
