Role Overview
Boulder County Public Works Department is seeking an entry‑level Apprentice Electrician
. The position is full‑time, Monday‑Friday, 6:00‑2:30 am, at 2525 13th St. Boulder, Colorado. This is a non‑exempt role under the Fair Labor Standards Act, eligible for overtime. Residents of Colorado are required.
Hiring Salary Range: $60,840.00 – $74,178.00 annually. Tentative Hiring Timeline:
Phone Screening (Week of June 15th);
First Round Interviews (Week of June 22nd);
Reference Check (Week of June 22nd).
New employees receive 80 hours of vacation at hire, plus 8 hours of vacation and medical leave accruals each month (eligible only if not employed at Boulder County within the previous 12 months). Boulder County also offers pension contributions and is a participant in Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).
Responsibilities- Perform routine electrical work on construction and remodel projects—installing conduit, electrical boxes, motors, receptacles, switches, light fixtures, and pulling cables.
- Assist in installation and maintenance of electrical systems such as security and fire alarm systems, energy management systems, card access systems, computer and telephone systems.
- Perform electrical demolition work, including removing old wire and electrical equipment.
- Respond to work orders for electrical repairs and installations.
- May schedule work and estimate time and materials.
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, power tools and equipment.
- Maintain work records and material receipts.
- Perform related work as required.
- May be reassigned in emergency situations.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of electrical experience.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- 2 years of commercial experience.
- 2 years of trade school.
- Working knowledge of materials, equipment, and procedures used in the electrical trade.
- Understanding of hazards and safety precautions typical of electrical work.
- Skill in operation of a pickup truck as required.
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Effective collaboration with employees, other agencies, and the public.
Back and Upper Body:
Constantly lift with one or two hands tools and parts weighing 1–30 lbs. from floor to waist; frequently lift 30–80 lbs. from floor to shoulder; occasionally lift parts weighing 60–80 lbs. over floor to shoulder with coworkers; occasional push and pull averaging 100 lb. force. Hands and Arms:
Strength and dexterity in both arms and hands for constant use of all tools. Body Movement:
Constantly stand, kneel, or lie on concrete floor; frequent climbing on and under equipment while carrying tools and parts weighing 1–30 lbs.; occasional work in inclement weather.
