General Equipment Mechanic

Summary

You will serve as a General Equipment Mechanic with National Park Service. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to travel occasionally within the park on a daily basis. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

• Assists with overhauls and repairs to light heavy equipment. This may include end loaders, motor graders, dump trucks, power generators, snow removal equipment.
• Performs overhauls and repairs to smaller gasoline and diesel powered equipment. This includes pickup trucks, vans, and chain saws, weed wackers, small tractors and attachments.
• Provides routine servicing to all the above vehicles and equipment using guidelines provided in equipment service manuals.
• May assist with, or prepare, monthly reports, requisitions for supplies and parts, job reports and vehicle labor and parts forms.
• Prepares reports using the computer using such programs as Word, Excel, and the FMSS programs.
• The incumbent must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within one year from the time of employment (EOD)

There is no substitution of education for experience for Federal Wage System (FWS) positions.

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment.

• You must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education;
  
  or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
