Overview

Boulder County Housing Department is seeking to hire two Housing Specialist - Voucher Team. The Housing Specialist administers Housing Choice Voucher (Section
8) programs and helps clients access safe, affordable housing. This role manages a caseload of up to 250–275 households and collaborates with clients, landlords, and community partners to provide accurate program information, maintain compliance, and deliver high-quality service.

We value candidates with a range of experiences; strong organizational, analytical, customer service, or compliance-related skills may qualify even without direct housing experience.

This is a full-time, benefited position that will work Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm, with occasional after-hours work for resident meetings, outreach events, emergencies, or to meet project deadlines. This position will work out of 516 Coffman St., Longmont, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime).

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Hiring Salary Range: $57,852.00 - $70,650.00 Annually

New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month. Boulder County offers bountiful benefits, including pension contributions. Boulder County employees may qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).

Responsibilities
  • Provide program information and guidance to applicants, participants, landlords, other agencies, and the public
  • Administer intake and eligibility processes, including reviewing applications, conducting interviews, collecting documentation, and auditing files
  • Manage and maintain housing waiting lists
  • Coordinate or perform Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspections according to HUD regulations
  • Conduct interim and annual recertifications and maintain accurate client records
  • Respond promptly to client and landlord questions, resolve housing-related issues, and coordinate with case management staff
  • Collaborate with internal teams and community partners to ensure coordinated, wrap-around services
  • Calculate and authorize rental assistance payments and handle repayment agreements as needed
  • Manage special purpose vouchers as assigned (e.g., portability, VASH, FUP, Mainstream, RAD/PBV)
  • Participate in hearings and prepare supporting documentation
  • Performs related work, as required
  • May be reassigned during emergency situations

    Boulder County is looking for well-qualified candidates. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged.

    Minimum requirements:

    • A high school diploma or equivalent
    • 2 years of relevant housing or program eligibility experience

    Additional related education may count towards required experience.

    Driver's License & Vehicle

    • Relevant certifications (e.g., Low Income Housing Tax Credits, HUD Voucher Program, Fair Housing, LIHTC)
    • Relevant work experience in case management, customer service, administration, compliance, or finance

    • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, landlords, and colleagues
    • Analytical and mathematical skills to calculate rent portions, verify income, and manage financial compliance
