Software Engineer, Full Stack Developer
Overview
Hi I’m Abhik, Ashby’s Co-Founder and VP of Engineering. We’re looking for a versatile, persistent product engineer who’s not afraid to build reusable building blocks across the stack and advocate for the time and space to do so. At Ashby, all our engineers ship features end-to-end at a high pace. If that speaks to you, read on.
About the RoleAs a Product Engineer at Ashby you’ll take ownership over a large portion of one of our products and own projects end‑to‑end. You’ll research competitors, write product specs, make wireframes, and more. Your responsibilities include building features that meet user needs, collaborating closely with product and design teams, and driving solutions from concept to delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Designed and built automated interview scheduling, which calculates possible times from interviewers and constraints and presents them to candidates via our responsive web app.
- Built a generalized declarative filter architecture that allows users to create complex filters for any record with a consistent UI and compiles it to SQL for the backend.
- Specced, designed, and implemented a feature that allows users to complete signing offers entirely within Ashby, working with customers to understand requirements and integrating the solution into other features.
- Own projects end‑to‑end, balancing speed and quality, and delivering high‑quality code and architecture.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and stakeholders to vet decisions and keep everyone informed.
- Identify opportunities for leverage, automation, or abstraction to improve developer productivity and quality.
- You’re not afraid to tackle any part of a technology stack, from frontend to infrastructure.
- You thrive in product and technical ambiguity and can build powerful abstractions to solve class‑of‑problem challenges.
- You strike a balance between speed and quality, moving quickly while maintaining a high‑quality product.
- You are ambitious, eager to improve skills, and comfortable taking ownership of projects and receiving feedback.
- You are an excellent collaborator and communicator, willing to vet decisions and keep stakeholders informed.
- You seek to create leverage in your work through automation, tools, or new abstractions.
- You prefer an environment with minimal process and maximal ownership rather than rigid process or heavy structure.
- You’re comfortable with senior‑level ownership and mentorship expectations.
- Competitive salary and equity.
- 10‑year exercise window for stock options.
- Unlimited PTO, encouraged to take time off.
- Minimum of 12 weeks fully paid parental leave.
- Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget.
- $100 / month education budget with manager approval for additional items.
- For US employees, top‑tier health insurance with 100% premiums covered; international employees receive high‑quality supplemental health coverage, fully covered by Ashby.
Our interview process consists of three rounds: an introductory call, a technical screen involving pair‑programming in our codebase, and three non‑coding interviews focused on product thinking, technical design, and infrastructure. We do not use leetcode or whiteboard exercises.
Technology StackType Script (frontend & backend), React, Graph
QL API, Node.js, Postgres, Redis. Prior experience in these technologies is not required; a love of typed languages is helpful.
Your onboarding experience includes a single‑script dev environment setup, immediate first product changes, peer pairing, and training sessions on culture, product, engineering process, and technical architecture.
