TITLE:
PRESCHOOL TEACHER ASSISTANT
Qualifications:
* Must have a CDA or substitute certificate
* P-3 Certification preferred
* Bilingual preferred
* Must demonstrate experience and interest in working with young children, parents, and volunteers
* Must demonstrate a strong knowledge of appropriate practices in early childhood development including working with parents
* Must demonstrate success in working as a member of a team
* Must have effective and strong communication skills (orally and written)
* Must demonstrate the ability to work well with young children
* Must be willing to work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of the program
Reports to:
Supervisor of Early Childhood
Job Goal:
Responsible for assisting the Classroom Teacher in developing and implementing a program of activities that promotes the social, emotional, physical, and academic development of each child. The duties and responsibilities will be carried out under the direction of the Classroom Teacher.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Assist Classroom Teacher in maintaining records on each child's progress and development
2. Responsible for assisting the teacher with the full implementation of Bound Brook School District's performance standards, policies and procedures, regulations and guidelines in the day-to-day operation of an early childhood development preschool program (4 years-5 years of age) including developmentally appropriate practices for a preschool program
3. Participate in team meetings, center activities, and staff development during work hours
4. Assist Classroom Teacher in reviewing the progress of each child and developing written plans to promote each child's growth and development
5. Maintain a well-organized, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children
6. Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self- esteem and self discipline
7. Assist Classroom Teacher in planning and implementing the daily program of activities based on principles of child development and in accordance with the program's curriculum
8. Observe each child daily to assess skills, interests, and needs and use this information to facilitate learning and growth
9. Establish a positive relationship with each child's family and share information about the child's day at the preschool
10. Assist the teacher in conducting staff/parent conferences.
11. Perform other duties as required or assigned

Physical Capabilities:
* Work is primarily performed in a classroom environment. Centers are dynamic with a high level of activity. Work may also be performed at community sites for field trips.
* Incumbent must be able to lift 40 pounds
* Stand up to 95% of the day
* Assume postures in low level positions that best allow physical and visual contact with children
* Must be able to sustain a high level of energy
* Bend to perform various tasks numerous times throughout the day
* Stoop, sit on the floor
* Have the ability to move from a seated position to a standing position promptly to respond to emergency situations
* Perform all activities with children, i.e. jump, dance, walk, run, etc. for extended periods of time
* Both indoor and outdoor environment are typically found in a Pre-School classroom. Depending upon activities and season, may be required to be outdoors for regular, prolonged activities.
* Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor the environment and children's well being
* Must be able to excel in an ambiguous and continuously changing environment
* Incumbent will need to be flexible and be able to respond quickly and appropriately to changing situations
* Incumbent will be faced with a variety of issues on a daily basis and will be engaged in multiple tasks and must respond quickly and appropriately to frequently changing needs of children
Terms of Employment:
Full Time 10 Months
Salary:
Following the established BBEA Salary Guide ranging from $26.75 per hour to $30.73 per hour.
