High School Mathematics Teacher (Grades 9-12)
Position PurposeUnder the general supervision of the School Principal, the teacher is responsible for developing students’ skills and competence in basic and complex mathematical principles, equations, formulas, calculations, and the application of mathematics to practical problem solving.
Essential Performance Responsibilities- Develop and administer mathematics curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate them into learning experiences that provide pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and maximize instructional time.
- Teach knowledge and skills in mathematics, including concepts such as real and imaginary numbers, formulas, calculations, and geometry, and promote creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.
- Design learning activities that demonstrate the application of mathematics to everyday life and problem solving.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modify instructional methods to fit individual students’ needs, including those with special needs; provide individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Maintain familiarity with district and Connecticut State standardized tests to adapt curriculum and maximize student achievement on such tests.
- Continually acquire professional knowledge and stay current with developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or conducting research.
- Organize and maintain a system for accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensure that student conduct conforms to school and district policies and establish and maintain standards of behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
- Coordinate with other professional staff members, especially within the grade level, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, supplies, and equipment and maintain inventory records.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
EquipmentUse standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel RequirementsTravel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiated instruction.
- Knowledge of a wide range of mathematics subjects, including arithmetic, equations, calculus, trigonometry, geometry, and related areas.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others involved in the course of work.
Work in standard office and school building environments.
Qualifications Profile- Certification/License:
New Jersey State Certification as a Mathematics Education Teacher (#[029] or #[229] as appropriate). - Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
FLSA StatusExempt
SalaryFollowing the established BBEA Salary Guide ranging from $61,825 to $105,620.
