Teacher

Teacher qualifications include a valid New Jersey instructional certificate and subject matter specialization endorsement or eligibility where required to meet highly qualified teacher standards. Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities is required. The ability to maintain a positive learning environment, strong interpersonal and communication skills, a required criminal history background check, and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status are also necessary.

The teacher reports to the principal and supervises pupils, student teachers, and classroom aides when assigned. The job goal is to provide an approved program and establish a class environment that fosters learning and personal growth, helping pupils develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed for continued education and maintaining good relationships with parents and other staff members.

Performance responsibilities include achieving state core curriculum content standards and district educational goals by promoting active learning in the classroom, developing lesson plans and instructional materials, monitoring pupil academic progress, maintaining records of pupil's educational progress, identifying pupil needs, establishing standards of pupil behavior, budgeting class time effectively, communicating with parents, devising written and oral assignments and tests, planning class activities and lesson presentations, maintaining professional competence, participating in school-level planning, faculty meetings/committees, and other school system groups, making effective use of community resources, upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy, and performing other duties within the scope of employment and certification as may be assigned.

Terms of employment include a work year and salary determined by the board. The performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and the provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of certified staff. BBEA teachers are eligible for salary ranging from $61,825 to $105,620 following the established BBEA Salary Guide, stipend opportunities, and full-time staff are eligible for medical, prescription, vision, and dental benefits.
