Qualifications
  • Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate and grade/level and/or content area endorsement and Bilingual Education Endorsement or eligibility.
  • Demonstrated language proficiency and knowledge of effective teaching methods.
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

Reports to:

Principal/Designated Administrator.

Supervises:
Pupils, and when assigned, student teachers and classroom aides.

Job Goal

To provide an approved bilingual education program that fosters English proficiency, academic learning, and personal growth.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Work to achieve state core curriculum content standards, district goals, and objectives by promoting active learning using board‑adopted curriculum and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide opportunities for individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil’s needs.
  • Set specific objectives in lesson preparation and weekly lesson plans and carry out presentations to effectively achieve these objectives.
  • Participate in the assessment of students’ English proficiency, identify students eligible for bilingual education/ESL, and provide necessary services.
  • Assess pupils’ academic progress, English proficiency, and personal growth toward stated objectives annually.
  • Maintain records of pupils’ educational progress and report findings as required.
  • Identify support services needs for limited English proficient pupils and cooperate with staff to resolve learning problems.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior conducive to learning.
  • Budget class time effectively.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences to inform them of program progress and encourage involvement.
  • Develop written and oral assignments and tests that require analytical and critical thinking.
  • Supervise pupils during out‑of‑classroom activities as assigned.
  • Maintain professional competence through in‑service education and other professional growth activities.
  • Participate in school‑level planning, faculty meetings/committees, and other school system groups.
  • Make effective use of community resources to enhance instruction.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of employment and certification as assigned.

  • Salary: $61,825 – $105,620 (BBEA Salary Guide).
