Assistant Stylist

Overview

The Assistant Stylist engages guests, consults on hair care needs, and recommends products and services. This temporary position prepares talent for a full stylist role, emphasizing guest service, productivity, and compliance. The first three months are mentored by an Elite or Master Stylist; months four to six involve independent guest servicing.

• Deliver exceptional guest service and aid the store in achieving retail and service sales goals.
• Support the mentor Stylist in meeting sales and productivity goals for hair services and products through add‑on recommendations, shampooing, blowouts, color, and additional grooming services.
• After month three, perform a full range of hair services—including design, cuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, keratin, extensions, makeup, brows, and ear piercing where applicable.
• Demonstrate products to guests to drive sales and enhance the guest service experience.
• Participate in in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives that create a superior guest experience.
• Stay current on industry trends, products, and services and share knowledge with guests.
• Maintain reliable attendance.

• Build guest relationships through consultations and tailored recommendations.
• Serve walk‑in guests promptly under mentorship.
• Collaborate with skin therapists and retail associates to provide a comprehensive store experience.
• Establish professional relationships with peers and brand partners to deliver exceptional service.
• Promote the guest loyalty program and Ulta Beauty app.

• Adhere to Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures state‑wide.
• Use service protocols to ensure consistency and excellence.
• Book guests for return services and events using the appropriate systems.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager.
• Maintain store operational standards—clean salon, sales floor, restrooms, back‑room, break area.
• Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for professional development.
• Follow the Ulta Beauty dress code and loss‑prevention best practices.
• Perform other operational tasks as directed.

• Cosmetology license.

• Basic understanding of haircutting, hair color, lightening, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, brow services, and ear piercing techniques.
• Basic familiarity with salon equipment and chemicals.
• Ability to recommend and sell professional hair care and makeup products.
• Strong communication skills.
• Independent and team‑orientated work style.
• Capability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.

• Flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• Frequent mobility during shift.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting.
• Continuous lifting or moving up to 10 lbs.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Continuous coordination and object manipulation.
• Frequent use of computer and telephone devices.

The pay range for this position is $15.92 – $21.70 per hour. Pay is determined by relevant education, experience, level, shift, location, and business needs. Eligible associates may also earn overtime and tips. Full‑time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits; part‑time positions are eligible for dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
