Qualifications
Applicants must be highly qualified under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Qualifications include: taking the Title I Paraprofessionals Test (available through Nebo School District), having 2 years of college (48 semester hours), or holding an Associate Degree. Proof of degree or transcript must be attached to the application online.
Essential Functions- Assists teachers, students and administrators in identifying resource materials for classroom use.
- Conducts classes and activities in a variety of formats to promote the use and enjoyment of literature.
- Evaluates books and periodicals for retention, repairs, or retirement to ensure collection quality.
- Maintains materials inventory of library books, hardware/software, media equipment, and instructional materials.
- Monitors student activities to maintain a safe learning environment.
- Oversees library collection operations, including reviews, developing the collection, ordering within budget, weeding, and balancing.
- Oversees student aides and volunteers, providing orientation, training, and ensuring completion of assignments.
- Performs circulation activities such as checking items in/out and preparing circulation counts.
- Prepares computerized and manual reports (collection statistics, scheduling, renewals, overdue lists, orders, costs).
- Processes new student access credentials and handles notices of missing, damaged, or overdue items.
- Serially logs library materials, barcodes, shelves, and produces required reports.
- Responds to inquiries from students, staff, and parents regarding library resources.
- Teaches grade‑level library standards and language arts concepts related to library skills.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Skills
: operating standard office equipment, using software applications, and preparing accurate records. - Knowledge
: basic math (fractions, percentages, ratios), reading manuals, writing documents, understanding complex written and oral instructions, library practices, terminology, basic bookkeeping, age‑appropriate literature. - Abilities
: scheduling activities and meetings; gathering and collating data; using equipment; flexibility in working with others; problem‑solving; maintaining confidentiality; reliable attendance.
Work under limited supervision following standardized practices, lead or coordinate others, and track budget expenditures. Utilize resources from other work units as necessary.
Working EnvironmentPhysical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. Job requires 20% sitting, 20% walking, and 60% standing. Work is performed in varying atmospheric conditions.
