Supervises the department under the direction of the Police Chief and has the full responsibility for the efficient and successful operations of the department. The Assistant Chief assists in the planning, organizing, coordinating and directing of personnel and resources of the department towards achieving the goals of security, peace, and well‑being.
Job Related and Essential Qualifications- Proficiency in use of motor vehicle
- Proficiency in use of department firearm(s)
- Maintain skill in Arrest Control Techniques
- Proficiency with department impact tools and other less lethal munitions as required
- Must possess the physical skill and agility necessary to apprehend, detain and control a suspect
- Must have good verbal communication skills
- Must have good organizational skills and good problem‑solving skills
- Essential knowledge of leadership skills and techniques
Requires a high school diploma; possession of a Utah POST Basic Law Enforcement Officer Certification; and possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate valid Utah driver's license.
PreferencePreference will be given to those with three (3) years of administration experience as a Lieutenant rank or higher.
Special RequirementsAbility to sit, stand, walk, run, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, and climb; exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations; must successfully pass the department's physical fitness criteria.

Benefits Medical InsuranceMedical Insurance. Benefits begin on the date of hire. Bountiful City offers Select Health and PEHP networks, with the choice of Traditional or High Deductible plans on either network. Bountiful pays 100% of the premium for employees (single coverage), 95% of the premium for two‑party coverage, and 90% of the premium for family coverage.
Dental and Vision InsuranceDental and Vision coverage is provided by Renaissance. The coverage is optional and paid for by the employee. It is effective on the first day of the month following the date of hire.
Life InsuranceGroup Term Life insurance coverage of two times the annual salary + $10,000 is provided to the employee, $10,000 for a spouse, and $10,000 per eligible dependent. The premium for this coverage is paid by the City. Additional supplemental life insurance may be purchased by the employee.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FLEX$)Eligible employees may elect to enroll in the FLEX$ program offered by PEHP. Employee contributions are made bi‑weekly through payroll. Funds can be used to pay for eligible medical expenses (up to $3,300 per year for 2025 and may be spent during a grace period of 75 days) and for dependent childcare expenses (up to $5,000 per year) on a pre‑tax basis.
