Automation & Mechatronics Engineer
Sapphire Fountains is seeking a highly skilled and dependable Controls & Electrical Systems Engineer to design, build, install, commission, troubleshoot, and support electrical control systems for water features. This hands‑on position combines electrical design, automation, field service, technical support, and product development. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex technical problems, improving processes, and working collaboratively to deliver reliable solutions for customers.
ResponsibilitiesElectrical Design & Control Systems
- Design electrical control panels and control systems for industrial equipment.
- Develop electrical schematics and panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Perform electrical calculations including Ohm's law, wire sizing, and distance requirements.
- Specify motors, electrical components, and control hardware appropriate for each application.
- Design and support circuit boards and new electrical products.
Panel Assembly, Installation & Commissioning
- Oversee or assist with control panel assembly and wiring.
- Install, commission, and test control panels at customer sites.
- Configure and program automation controls.
- Verify proper system operation before customer handoff.
Programming & Automation
- Program and troubleshoot PLC‑based control systems using ladder logic.
- Experience with Allen‑Bradley control platforms (preferred).
- Configure remote access modems and communication systems.
- Identify software solutions to improve system performance and functionality.
Troubleshooting & Technical Support
- Diagnose and repair electrical control panels and automation systems.
- Perform systematic troubleshooting using electrical schematics, multimeters, and diagnostic tools.
- Replace defective electrical components and restore equipment to proper operation.
- Provide remote and on‑site technical support for customers and field technicians.
- Respond calmly and effectively to equipment failures and service calls.
Product Development & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in the design and development of new products and electrical control systems.
- Improve existing panel designs for simplicity, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Develop standard processes and technical documentation to improve consistency and efficiency.
- Assist with product management activities including component selection and documentation.
Documentation & Collaboration
- Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, service manuals, and technical documentation.
- Document troubleshooting procedures and installation standards.
- Mentor team members and share technical knowledge.
- Work collaboratively across engineering, production, and service teams.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience designing, building, troubleshooting, and servicing electrical control panels.
- Experience with PLC programming and industrial automation systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Proficiency using electrical test equipment including multimeters.
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical design software.
- Strong understanding of electrical theory, motors, controls, and industrial electrical systems.
- Experience performing systematic troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Ability to travel periodically for installation, commissioning, and service work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Allen‑Bradley PLCs and control systems.
- Experience programming ladder logic.
- Background in electrical engineering, controls engineering, automation, or a closely related field.
- Experience designing or supporting printed circuit boards (PCBs).
- Plumbing or mechanical systems experience is a plus.

Education & Experience
A degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation, or a related field is helpful but not required. Equivalent hands‑on experience designing, programming, installing, and troubleshooting industrial control systems is highly valued. Relevant work experience with electrical panels and control programming will be given priority over formal education.
