The Citadel of Bourbonnais is seeking a Nurse Unit Manager LPN to join their team. The primary purpose is to manage the day‑to‑day nursing activities and ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Nurse Unit Manager LPN Duties and Responsibilities- Manages the nursing staff, scheduling breaks, reassigning employees from one area to another based on facility needs, writing performance reviews, and enforcing policies with responsibility to issue coaching and corrective action as needed.
- Meets with administration, medical and nursing staff, therapy department, and other related departments to plan care.
- Develops and maintains care standards.
- Makes frequent rounds to note resident/patient conditions and to ensure nursing personnel are performing their assignments according to acceptable nursing standards.
- Gives and receives the nursing report upon reporting in and ends shift duty hours.
- Ensures assigned work areas (e.g., nurse station, medication cart, medication room) and resident/patient care rooms and treatment areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
- Assists the Quality Assessment and Assurance Committee in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies.
- Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and charting.
- Interprets restorative care policies and procedures for personnel, residents, and family members.
- Provides direct nursing care as necessary and as department needs may dictate.
- Ensures that all restorative care notes are informative and descriptive of the treatment provided and of the resident’s response.
- Documents all pertinent data as required by Medicare, Medicaid, company standards and policies.
- Completes the required forms upon admission, transfer, and/or discharge.
- Informs nursing service personnel of new admissions, expected arrival times, room assignments, etc.
- All other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong interpersonal and team development skills.
- Ability to multi‑task and remain calm under stress.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work and delegate to others.
- Understands and follows infection control standards, policies and procedures.
- Must be able to adapt to a flexible work schedule and occasional overnight travel.
- Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and aptitude to learn company applications.
Education and Experience
- Current CPR Certification required.
- Possession of a current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State.
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Long‑term care and MDS experience preferred.
- Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, all with or without mechanical devices are required.
- Limited exposure to environmental hazards; understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
