This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of campus boiler systems, HVAC equipment, chilled water systems, building automation controls, and fire alarm systems. The successful candidate will help ensure a safe, comfortable, and efficient environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors while contributing to the daily operations of a thriving campus community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate and monitor high- and low-pressure steam and hot water boiler systems.
  • Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on boilers and related equipment.
  • Sample and test boiler water systems to ensure proper operation and compliance.
  • Maintain and repair boiler piping systems and chilled water systems.
  • Assist with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of HVAC and building automation systems.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair fire alarm system components as needed.
  • Respond promptly to system alarms, equipment malfunctions, and emergency situations, including system shutdowns.
  • Keep accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, operating logs, and compliance documentation.
  • Promote and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support campus operations as needed.
  • May provide guidance and oversight to student workers during summer operations.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This position may be required to manage student workers in the summer.

    Skills and Abilities

    Required

  • Knowledge of steam and hot water boiler systems, chillers, HVAC equipment, and building automation systems.
  • Ability to diagnose problems, perform repairs, and complete preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Strong attention to safety procedures and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a facilities team.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Additional Information

    EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Trade school training, technical certifications, or related vocational education preferred.
  • EPA certification is a plus.
  • Previous experience in boiler plant operations, facilities maintenance, HVAC, or a related field is preferred.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments, including mechanical rooms, boiler plants, and other campus facilities.
  • Position may require lifting, climbing, bending, and working in varying weather conditions.
  • Participation in on-call responsibilities is required.
  • SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

    The salary for this position is $30.00 per hour. Additional considerations may be made for relevant experience and educational background.
